LGBTQ+ Cancer Awareness Event at the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre

On the 28th of March OUTpatients had the pleasure of having a stall at an LGBTQ+ Cancer Awareness Event.

We met members of the community to share our resources that de-mystify how LGBTQ+ people can access the NHS national cancer screening programmes. These screening programmes are for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and bowel cancer, and you can use our ‘screening at a glance’ tool to see if you are eligible for any of them.

We also shared about our support groups for LGBTQ+ people affected by cancer. Our support groups are LGBTQ+ led, and centre open communication, mutual respect, and connection between LGBTQ+ people affected by cancer, and meet monthly online

We had the pleasure of being in the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre for this event. The London LGBTQ+ Community Centre is a sober, intersectional community centre and cafe which runs many free events for the LGBTQ+ community

We were particularly lucky to meet so many lovely people from the 50+ social. Run by volunteers from the sadly closed charity Opening Doors, there is still so much support out there (completely volunteer run!) for our 50+ community.

There were other stalls hosted by other organisations supporting the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people, including the UK Cancer and Transition Service (UCATS), and The Bridge Clinic

Huge thank you to Francesca Fiennes from the South East London Breast Screening Programme for organising this event. We love meeting with our community and helping you access the healthcare you deserve!
