Greater Manchester Cancer Conference

This May, we headed to Manchester for the Greater Manchester Cancer Conference to meet local health professionals, charities, and changemakers working to improve cancer care. The conference stirred up interesting conversations on how to amplify the voices of underserved communities and the role of healthcare professionals in this work.

Over the span of two days, we hosted an engaging stall packed full of posters, patient information and other freebies. We were pleased to meet so many health professionals from various sectors across Greater Manchester who were inspired by our mission to raise awareness about the specific needs of LGBTIQ+ people. We also reconnected with old friends Shine Cancer Support and GatewayC, and made some new ones including Can-Survive UK, METUP UK, and Move Against Cancer.

But the good work didn’t end there! We also delivered the coference’s closing session on the plenary stage, discussing empowerment and taking lived experience into impact. We shared the stage with Move against Cancer, MET UP, and Can-Survive to emphasise the importance of making healthcare inclusive and the power of platforming patient voices.

None of this would have been possible without the help of Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance. We are so grateful for their invitation and the platform they provided us to talk about our mission. The willingness of the conference’s attendees to learn about LGBTIQ+ barriers in the cancer pathway- filled us with hope that a brighter future is possible.

The Greater Manchester Cancer Conference truly was a testament to the power of collaboration. The conference demonstrated the power of community, when people put their hearts together. Together we can make healthcare a more equitable and safer place for all!.
