Consortium Panel on Tackling LGBT+ Health Inequalities

Last month, we were thrilled to join a panel discussion organised by Consortium LGBT focused on tackling LGBT+ health inequalities. The event brought together a passionate group of LGBT+ organisations, NHS staff networks, local authorities, funders, and others dedicated to improving health outcomes for the LGBT+ community.

We shared our experiences of working with local and regional health systems, highlighting both successful collaborations and the challenges we’ve encountered. Topics ranged from advocating for inclusive cancer care to addressing systemic barriers that hinder effective partnerships. A key question guided the discussion: “How can we improve collaboration and strengthen partnerships between LGBT+ organisations and local health systems?” Attendees exchanged ideas, shared success stories, and provided practical tips to foster stronger connections and drive meaningful change.

In addition to the panel, Consortium hosted a workshop on “Engaging with Health and Social Care.” This interactive session provided attendees with practical strategies for building partnerships, navigating healthcare systems, local councils  and advocating for inclusive policies. The workshop emphasised actionable steps for strengthening relationships between LGBT+ organisations and healthcare providers, empowering participants to drive meaningful change.

OUTpatients is committed to building on these conversations, forming partnerships, and working to ensure that the LGBT+ community receives equitable, inclusive cancer care.
