Administrative Assistant (Peer Support Services)

Location: Online, with an opportunity to assist in-person.

Join OUTpatients as an Administration Assistant volunteer for our peer support services and play a vital role in supporting our mission to create inclusive cancer care for the LGBTIQ+ community. This opportunity is perfect for someone with Administration  skills who wants to make a meaningful impact from the comfort of their own home.

 

What you will be doing 

 

As a Peer Services Administration Assistant volunteer your tasks could include:

  • Helping us strengthen our outreach to the partners and carers of LGBTIQ+ people with cancer, by researching new places we can send print resources to
  • Assisting with zoom administration such as moderating the chat during online support sessions. 
  • Assisting with the management of a new signposting resource list – adding resources to the list, checking the accuracy of information on the list, and researching new resources to add to the list. 
  • Assisting with the management of new OUTpatients peer support group chats – assisting the Peer Services Lead to report breaches of the code of conduct, running any channels of the volunteers choice, assisting the Peer Services Lead to keep a weekly updates channel with current resources and opportunities.
  • Sending out print resources from our London office space. 

 

What We’re Looking For

 

Essential Skills

Reading English; Writing English; Email; Computer literacy; Social Skills (for tasks with access to patient spaces such as online support sessions and group chats). 

 

Bonus Skills

Zoom; Google Sheets.  

 

LGBTIQ+/Cancer lived experience

For tasks involving access to patient spaces – such as online support sessions and group chats – it is essential for volunteers interested in this role to be LGBTIQ+.

Otherwise, it is not essential to be LGBTIQ+ or have lived experience of cancer in order to do the rest of the tasks in this role, however allyship and compassion for these experiences is essential. 

 

Frequency 

Ad-hoc and monthly opportunities. 

 

Training offered

Volunteer Onboarding (if not already completed); Introduction to OUTpatients’ Peer Support (if not already completed); Safeguarding; Safeguarding, Peer Support Code of Conduct; Peer Services Standards; Group Chats SOP. 

 

DBS

It will be necessary to undergo a DBS check/have a current DBS certificate for this volunteer role, if you wish to take on tasks with access to patient spaces such as online support sessions and group chats.
