Location: Online, with opportunities to attend local and national events in-person.
What you will be doing
As a Peer Services Patient Representative volunteer your tasks could include:
- Be a patient representative, sharing your own experiences and signposting to OUTpatients services with governing bodies in healthcare looking for patient input (such as cancer alliances, ICBs, etc).
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills
Writing English; Reading English; Speaking English; Social Skills (for tasks with access to patient spaces such as online peer support groups and group chats).
Bonus Skills
Public speaking/presenting; Advocacy (including self advocacy); Experience in facilitating peer support, or similar emotional support spaces (e.g. experience as a counsellor, religious leader, community leader, etc); Zoom.
LGBTIQ+/Cancer lived experience
For this role it is essential you have lived experience of being an LGBTIQ+ person with cancer, or being the partner and/or carer to an LGBTIQ+ person with cancer.
Frequency
Ad-hoc, monthly, and daily opportunities.
Training offered
Volunteer Onboarding (if not already completed); Introduction to OP’s Peer Support (if not already completed); Safeguarding; Peer Support Code of Conduct; Peer Services Standards; Group Chats SOP.
DBS
It will be necessary to undergo a DBS check/have a current DBS certificate for this volunteer role, if you wish to take on tasks with access to patient spaces such as online support sessions and group chats.
