Sex and Cancer: Chemotherapy
Traces of chemotherapy can be present in bodily fluids for a number of days after having chemotherapy, such as your urine, vomit, and also in small amounts in other bodily secretions such as vaginal fluids or semen (cum).
Theoretically, chemotherapy can be passed from one individual to another via bodily fluids, but there is no clear research that guides us as to how long this would be a risk for following chemotherapy treatment.
For any sex involving the transfer of bodily fluids (e.g. oral sex, anal sex, vaginal sex) we advise using a condom or dam for 5 days after a round of chemotherapy. Kissing is safe.
